Okay here is the deal: our kids were asking for our iPhones and finding entertaining games, some good, some not-so-good. We would find our selves in restaurants, appointments, car trips etc..handing them the phone and hoping for the best.
Our kids were so desperate to play on our iPhone, even the seven year old was playing preschool games just to be playing something! The light bulb went off that we could be putting the iPhone and their minds to better use. By applying what they were learning in school into a tool to reinforce important concepts. Why stop there? As they move from grade to grade, so does Smarty! Children learn at different paces so why not jump your second grader up to our 3rd grade application? Or even 4th for that matter?
So here you have it, busy moms (educators, designers, developers) with eager kids, needing to keep busy in the day to day hustle and bustle of everyday life! Now our "digital natives" can learn on the go and all the time they spend on the iphone, ipod, ipad is worthwhile.
Let's face it; every minute our kids are doing something we want it to count to a bigger and better something, other than sitting in front of the television....and thus the inception of SMARTY SHORTZ was created!

SmartyShortz LLC is a premier boutique mobile development firm focused on the education and government vertical. We both develop and release our own apps as well as bring your ideas to the world! We have or are in the process of developing and/ or released over 20 applications on the Apple iTunes store, Android Marketplace, Windows Mobile and Blackberry App Exchange. Our focus is ease-of-use, fast time to utilization and pixel reduction – the art of only including as much on the screen that the user might need to “get” the application and start using it. Our developers are seasoned Enterprise and Web developers that now exclusively focus on mobile development with some web backend for database storage as well as tracking/ authenticating. We develop mobile applications that contain static content, game based theory as well as offline and online synchronization of content. Our company experience is in developing highly-scalable and useable applications from idea to requirements gathering, to design to coding, to release and maintenance thereof.
We are educators, designers, project managers, government experts, providers as well as benefits experts, coders, marketers and launch experts to ensure that ideas become reality and are not only available on the iPhone, iPad, iOS, Android and Blackberry platforms but also and more importantly manage the launch, integration and maintenance of these important mobile applications on the corresponding stores. Our experience to date includes the successful development, launch and maintenance of multiple applications across both the mobile and web-space. That said, the development and coding of an application is not the entire project – the successful utilization, gathering of feedback and iterative maintenance and development – are key.

Chief Creative Director – Jill Mikols Etesse Jill Mikols Etesse received her Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing and Management with a concentration in Textiles from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Jill has worked in the design industry for over 17 years, in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami and Washington DC. She has studied under top designers (St. John Knits & Calvin Klein) in her field, designed a private line and many of her pieces have been published. Jill currently serves as both a Creative Director and Journalist while sitting on numerous design boards. |
